Yeah, yeah, I know. Wills and Kate…err…excuse me, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge, toasted their nuptials with Pol Roger. But not all of us are lucky enough to have a bottle of Pol Roger at our convenience.
At least, not this girl.
But what I did have was a bottle of 2006 Argyle Brut. So I figured, “What the hell. I’ll toast the royal couple with it.”
This is one of my top five favorite sparklers, hands down. Why?
I. love. apples.
There. I said it. I’m a Washingtonian who loves apples. Whoda thunk, right? I mean, besides wine, that is what Washington is famous for!!!
Anyway, the 2006 Argyle Brut is layered with apples. From the nose to the finish, you’d think you’re drinking a Sparkling Apple Cider! There’s a hint of yeast on the nose, but beyond that, it’s all about the apple. And the apple varies. Red Delicious Apple on the nose. Granny Smith on the palate. A Gala or Fuji with a hint of lemon juice on the finish. It’s all about the apples, though.
And I love it.
If the Prince and his bride do ever read this (hahahahaha…that’s extremely optimistic on my part, but hey, stranger things have happened!!), let me leave you with this Scottish Marriage Blessing, as I have ancestors who came from the United Kingdom:
May God be with you and bless you.
May you see your children’s children.
May you be poor in misfortune, rich in blessings.
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.
