Recently, I had the opportunity to try two of the three current releases of ready-to-drink Old Fashioneds from one of my favorite bourbon producers, Penelope Bourbon. The two I tried were the Black Walnut and Peach.
Let’s start with the Peach.

The Peach Old Fashioned is very bourbon forward. Once you get past the intense bourbon nose, you will find notes of floral peach, vanilla, and dark cherry. This isn’t for the beginning old fashioned drinker, though. The intensity of the bourbon carries through, almost overpowering the delicate peach notes. If you like Penelope Bourbon, you will enjoy this.
I picked this up at Sunset Liquors in Hillsboro, Oregon for $29.00. The price-to-quality ratio is very good, all things considered.
Next is the Black Walnut.

Now this one is very different from the Peach. While it is still very bourbon forward, there is a sweetness on it from the vanilla and caramel toffee notes that offset the harshness of the bourbon. This is definitely a good introduction to Old Fashioneds and their variants for a beginner when it comes to bourbon-based cocktails.
I got this at Costco in Ridgefield, WA for $21.99 + Washington state liquor and sales tax.
I am now on the hunt for the Apple Cinnamon one. I hope that I can acquire that one in the near future and try it!
