Napa Trip – Day One – The Adventure of Getting There

So driving to Napa proved to be more challenging than I thought. Who would have thought that we’d hit a massive, January or February-style snow storm in mid-March?!?!

Snow between Yreka and Weed

Sorry for the blurriness, but we were driving down the freeway. And this was really early in the morning…I think it was about 6 in the morning on the 20th. We had left at about 11:30 p.m. on the 19th.

The closer we got to Mt. Shasta, the hairier it got. At Weed, we had to chain up.

And me, being the silly goose that I am, forgot how the nice gentleman at Les Schwab Tire Center told me to put on my chains. In my defense, though, I bought them over a year ago, so of course I’m going to forget!!! 🙂

Luckily, a very nice gentleman who was chaining up behind us was willing to help and, as luck would have it, he had just put the same chains I have on his car!!

I-5 is hidden somewhere underneath...

So after a very slow trip over Mt. Shasta, we finally got to take our chains off and continue our journey.

Lake Shasta...NO MORE SNOW!!!

We arrived, safe and sound at our hotel (which, I didn’t get a picture of, but it’s probably a good thing…that’s another story *grr*) and crashed. It was a long, pretty journey…with some suck-tacular parts.

What would Monday hold?

Well, my other passion is racing. If it’s got 4 wheels, an engine and goes like hell, then I adore it. So of course, Monday’s first stop was Andretti Winery.

…but I’ll save that for the next post.
