Mixology Monday: Hot Toddy

What is this, you ask? Mixology Monday is where I get to share some of my favorite cocktail recipes with you. Whether it be twists on old favorites or original cocktails that I concoct, you’ll find them here!

Today is National Hot Toddy Day. It couldn’t come at a better time, being that we’ve had some colder than normal temperatures here in Washington state.

The alcohol base of the hot toddy can come from one of three liquors: whiskey, rum, or brandy. There is also lemon, honey, and spices like cinnamon and clove added to the mixture, along with hot water or tea. I love a whiskey based hot toddy, especially when I’m sick. There’s something about the soothing aromatics of the mixture that makes a bad cold a little more tolerable.

My favorite hot toddy recipe is simple…whiskey, hot water, lemon ginger tea, lemon juice, and honey.

There are a million and one ways to get water hot so you can make tea. My personal favorite method is to run it through my single-cup coffee maker.

A hot toddy isn’t just for when you’re sick, though. Oh no. This is a delicious way to warm up on a cold night also.

If hot toddies aren’t in your repertoire of drinks, then I highly recommend that you add them!
