Horsepower…it’s more than a mechanical term…

When I think of the word “horsepower”, I immediately think of cars. Yeah. I know. It’s the gearhead in me, though. There’s nothing sweeter to my ears than the sound of 42 800 horsepower engines rumbling as they take the green flag, though.

But this isn’t about cars. Oh no. Far from it.

The 2009 Horsepower Proprietary Red Blend from McKinley Springs in Prosser, WA is a lovely blend composed of 43% Syrah, 35% Barbera, 9% Malbec, 9% Petit Verdot and 4% Mourvedre, all from McKinley Springs’ estate vineyard located in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA.

On the nose, there is dark berries and leather. I could seriously just sit and smell this wine for hours on end. On the palate, there’s a lovely array of earthiness, dark cherry with hints of baking cocoa and espresso. The finish lingers, leaving you with hints of pepper and cherries.

This wine begs for food. It’s recommended that this be paired with meat lasagna, stuffed mushrooms or barbeque ribs…but honestly, I’d pair this with just about anything that’s hearty.

The SRP is $16, but this drinks like a wine twice the price. So definitely stock up on this!!

This wine was generously provided as a media sample from the winery and Trellis Growth Partners, LLC.
