A Taste of South America: Fantastic Summertime Whites

I know. I know. I suck at this. I have a good reason for sucking, though! It’s been a crazy month of May in my household and will continue to be crazy for a while. If you’re not a personal friend of mine of Facebook and didn’t see the progression of posts, I will let y’all know that my 87 year old grandmother fell on the morning of 5/23 and broke her hip. She will be okay, thankfully, but she is now a bionic woman! Needless to say, the first day of my Memorial Day weekend was quite interesting. I didn’t *plan* on spending all day at the hospital, but it happened. Yes, I did come home and have a few adult beverages afterwards.

The sunshine associated with summertime calls for one of two different types of wines. Rosé or whites. Who doesn’t like sitting on the back porch or poolside with a cool, crisp wine?

Two wines to consider for this summer come from South America.

The first wine to consider is the Montes Limited Sauvignon Blanc. The nose on this wine gives interesting aromas of tomato plants, green pepper, minerality, citrus and lemongrass. The palate shines with notes of crisp acid and tropical fruits. Personally, I’d pair this with grilled fish, but you could certainly pair it with oysters, chicken or even a light pasta dish.

The next wine to consider for your summer enjoyment is the Kaiken Torrontes. If you’ve never experience Torrontes, I highly recommend that you seek them out! This Torrontes has notes of stone fruit and citrus peel on the nose. Peaches are very dominant on the palate. My personal note on this is “sunshine wine”. Definitely drink this in the yard or poolside on a sunny day. This is another wine that could easily be paired with oysters, but would work well with chicken, fish or a light pasta dish as well.
