Dec. 31st is Champagne/Sparkling Wine Day. And why not have a better day? I always drink some sort of a sparkling wine on New Years Eve, whether it’s cava, champagne, crémant or other forms of sparkling wine, I usually have something bubbly to drink when the clock strikes midnight.
The 14 Hands Brut is a classic Washington sparkling wine in my book. Apples dominate the nose and palate, but there’s also gentle hints of citrus and a creamy mouthfeel that make this a delight to drink. And at $15? Sold! I am a fan of their sister sparkling, Michelle, but if given then choice, I would go for the 14 Hands first.
The Piper Sonoma Brut is another one I enjoy. This is a another one that you can usually find for around $15 in the grocery store, but it doesn’t drink like a $15 wine. This one is yeasty, yet fruity at the same time. The solid acids on this make it worthwhile.
Both of these wines would be great for New Year’s Eve celebrations, New Year’s Day brunches, or even just sitting down and celebrating the fact that it’s Tuesday and you didn’t lose your cool on your coworker/roommate/partner. They would also be great for sparkling wine cocktails.
Remember, Dec. 31st is the official Champagne/Sparkling Wine Day, but it *is* not just for celebrations!
